Consignment Application Information

Requirements for becoming a consignee: To be considered for consignment sales, you must be affiliated or be a member of Kentucky Appalachian Craft Council (KACC), Kentucky Proud, Sheltowee Artisans, or the Carnegie Resident Artists.

· CCAC history: In October 2008, a massive renovation took place to create the Carnegie Community Arts Center in a beautiful downtown building which initially served as the old Somerset Post Office (1911) and later as the Somerset/Pulaski Co. Library (through an Andrew Carnegie endowment). Plans had begun earlier that year by the Pulaski County Library Board, Diane Giddens and the Watershed Arts Alliance, County Judge Executive, Barty Bullock, and Somerset Mayor, Eddie Girdler. The community rallied, and the CCAC opened on December 1, 2008.

· CCAC partners: The Carnegie Community Arts Center now houses a frame shop and a photography studio on the 2^nd floor; the Federal Room and Sheltowee Art Shop on the main floor; and the Bistro, 5 individual artist studios, and The Yellow Umbrella on the lower floor.

· The Yellow Umbrella Opening: March 26, 2010, 6-8pm, The Yellow Umbrella celebrated its grand opening with the theme of A French Market: Kitchen and Bath Shop. Open daily, Tuesday through Friday (Saturdays during the fall), and during evening events, it showcases consignments of handcrafted kitchen, bath and food items from crafters of the organizations above. There is an application process for interested, qualifying crafters. Decisions will be made by a product selection committee. CCAC will retain a 25% consignment fee on all sold items. Consignment fee will increase this fall to 30%. Consignees are responsible for shipping costs to and from TYU. Payments to artists will be sent within 30 days from the end of each month in which products are sold.

· The Yellow Umbrella Applications: Ongoing applications are continually accepted and work continually comes into The Yellow Umbrella. To be part of this new venture, we invite you to fill out our application and send it to us, along with photos of your best sellers that fit with our kitchen and bath theme. (You may also E-MAIL this information with digital photos to: carnegieyellowumbrella@gmail.com, with “CCAC/TYU APP” in the subject line) From your application and photos, our product selection committee will chose work that they think will sell well within the shop for 2010 fall/winter. Artist/Crafters’s name, photo, and short bio will accompany each artist’s work within the shop, and the CCAC will share artist contact information with its customers to promote our artists. Products will be reviewed seasonally to update and expand stock within TYU.

Be sure to include 3-6 photographs of your best selling products (related to the kitchen and bath theme). Use the back side of this application and/or additional sheets of paper as needed to explain your medium, process, and design features for each product. Mail your application and photos in a 4” x 6” manila envelope. (Note to Sheltowee Artisans: If you sell in the Sheltowee Art Shop at CACC, we ask that your TYU products be exclusive.) You may also send your information via email to: carnegieyellowumbrella@gmail.com, along with digital photos of your best sellers.

Within 30 days of receiving your application and materials: the TYU product committee will let you know which of your items have been accepted for inclusion and sales in the shop.

At the time of shipment of all requested products, we will ask you to fill out a TYU Inventory Sheet which we will send to you. All products shipped to TYU must include a label with your name and CODE we will assign you, stock number of your choice, and the retail price. Also be sure to include business cards and a laminated half-page bio with your photo. This half sheet bio might include a special story about you as the artist or your work that would help form a relationship between you, as the artist, and the customer buying your work.
